Boris! Name him Boris!

I say this primarily because of the Morris & Boris series of children's books I read when I was little. Morris was a moose who tended to take everything his friend Boris the bear tried to explain to his literally. Boris would get exasperated at the silliness, and I could just see the spirit bear mentally facepalming at the antics of the Harbies.

Good luck to you man. It's really not easy with the way things have been, especially if you live in a larger city.

Thanks a lot :-)

If I told you I'm still not done with playing Morrowind after 6 years and oodles of add-on, mods and side-quests. I have, in fact, not bothered with the main quest yet. Everything side-quest related is everso much more interesting lol That might tell you what sort of player I am. I get side-tracked. Really easily. It's at the point of becoming ridiculous.

It does sound like I might get something out of the game anyway. As long as I can just avoid having to talk to people at length, and do my own thing. I'm generally better at solo-ing, 'cause I don't work well with others.

At the same time I do kinda envy the friendships I've seen some of my friends form through WoW. But then, I do the same through blogging, so I suppose that's not so different.

Thanks for the offer of assistance. I likely won't be buying anything in the near future though. Money's a bit tight. But at least the game isn't on my to-stay-the-heck-away-from list any longer.

The GS addon does more than just give one a simple number. With it you can easily inspect a player's gear comparing it's value against his or her current spec, and easily check out their achievements.

The tool provides more, it's the bad player misusing it who gives GS a bad name.

A raid leader OF A STATIC RAID GROUP OR GUILD who solely relies on GS is a fool. A PUG raid leader who solely relies on GS is also a fool, but less so. The pug leader should use GS as a base, then dig a little deeper from there. Point of example, my RL for The Boda Bag Tribe, Taikoubou. When we need to fill people for our ICC group, he will check their GS to see that they meet the minimum to perform well in the instance. Then he will ask about the players experience, and look at their talent spec and their gear. We have taken players with a ~4700 GS into ICC and done well, because they were able to perform.

The people railing against GS tend to not fully understand it. It's an ease-of-use addon that provides readily available information into a simplfied, complete in-game window.

Heya Jemima, welcome to Troll Bouquet. :D

I'm always glad to help, and the great thing about WoW is that, whatever your interest, you can find something to do. Do you like exploring? Questing? How about a short dungeon or two? You can have as much or as little social interaction as you like.

I've seen raids take anywhere from half an hour to five hours, depending upon what the raid wants to get out of the run. Something like Vault of Archavon, for example, lets players pick and choose what bosses they want (and even my little badly-geared Warlock was able to go into the 25-person version) and doesn't take very long. I can't stand to be in one place for too long, but something like that is perfect for me (though I managed about four hours in Naxxramas simply because my guildmates and I were goofing off so much).

If ever you want pointers or ideas, don't hesitate to drop me a line and I'll see what I can do. If you do pick up WoW, I hope you enjoy it - it's helped me forge some strong friendships that I honestly wouldn't have without it.

Uninitiated here.

I didn't even know you could get anywhere in WoW without raiding. Raiding is all I ever hear about. And I'm autistic, I cannot talk to people for as long periods of time as it takes to plan and execute a raid. Mind, my only knowledge of this is what I have from gamer friends, but no, just no. I have avoided being interested in WoW at all, because while I do think it looks interesting, I thought raiding was a necessary part of it.

Thanks for the information. I may yet end up playing WoW lol Now that I know I won't be expected to invest loads of time on stuff that'll effectively disable me for days afterwards, just to progress. Well, some will expect it still apparently. But now I know better. Thank you! :D

Different people have cracked open the addon's (horribly written) code and looked at it. While I don't have the specific numbers on hand, GS is coded to give (significantly) more weight to items with more stamina.

Food for thought.
